High Bridge Borough Bunnvale Well Upgrades
View allNJ I-Bank Water Infrastructure News (WIN): High Bridge Borough borrows $1.7 million in Water Bank loans, saving ratepayers approximately $1.4 million.
High Bridge Borough (“the Borough” or “High Bridge”) recently completed a drinking water project that is being financed with approximately $1.7 million in loans from the NJ Water Bank, a low-rate funding program jointly administered by the DEP and the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (“I-Bank”). Because the water system serves a population of fewer than 10,000, the project is eligible for $500,000 in principal forgiveness (“PF”). Total savings for this project, including PF and lower interest costs, is estimated to be $1,389,742 over the 30-year term of the loan or 82% of the total project costs as compared to the Borough financing it independently. In addition, this project created an estimated 20 direct one-year construction jobs.
The work included upgrading the site’s electrical system, replacing aging pumps and pipes, and installing modern monitoring equipment to better track water levels and system performance. A new, more durable structure was constructed to house pump controls and the emergency power system, protecting vital infrastructure from weather and wear. The existing backup generator was also replaced and relocated for safer and more efficient operation.
These upgrades are part of the Borough’s long-term plan to strengthen its water system and prepare for future needs. By replacing outdated components and improving system efficiency, High Bridge invested in a more resilient and sustainable water supply.
Michele Lee, Mayor of High Bridge thanked the New Jersey Water Bank, noting that “We were able to make long-overdue improvements to our drinking water system without overburdening taxpayers. By using this program, we saved an incredible 82% over what conventional financing would have cost. This investment ensures our residents have safe, reliable drinking water today and for years to come. We’re deeply grateful for this partnership, which helps small towns like ours take big steps forward in maintaining essential infrastructure.”
This project was designed by Colliers Engineering and constructed by De Maio Electric Company.
